Frequently Asked Questions
Please find below some answers to questions you may have about counselling. If anything has not been covered, please Contact Me and I will do my best to provide you with an answer:

How many sessions can I have?

There is no lower or upper limit. Each counselling session lasts 50 minutes, while EMDR sessions can be 60 or 90 minutes. We can review the therapeutic relationship at any time during these sessions, with the potential to extend or finish our work together.

What happens during an introductory session?

Following the first booking, we will hold an initial meeting where I can provide more details of my work and we can discuss the reasons for you coming to counselling. I will outline the way we could work together and explain the terms of our working contract together. Then, the rest of the session is for you to explore in any way to wish to.

When do you offer sessions?

I am currently working Monday-Friday with a mixture of daytime and evening sessions. We will usually meet weekly, and preferably at the same time on the same day, although I understand there are circumstances when this may not be possible and I will try to accommodate you where I can.

What can you offer in terms of confidentiality?

This is an important point which can be discussed further during the introductory session. However, your contact details will be kept in a locked folder and any notes I make will be factual in nature, kept private and lacking in any identifiable details. Any premises I use for counselling do not explicitly advertise the service.

What do you charge for counselling?

I charge £55 for each 50-minute session. EMDR sessions are charged at £80 for 60 minute sessions or £100 for 90 minute sessions.

What happens if I need to cancel a session? Do I still have to pay?

If a cancellation is made over 24 hours before a session is set to begin, any payment is waived. Ideally, the session will be rearranged. Unless there are exceptional circumstances, I charge the usual session fee for any cancellation made at any shorter notice than this.

What if I need further help following the completion of our sessions together?

While you can rebook additional sessions with me, it may be that I feel one of my local contacts may be of greater use to you. I am always happy to provide contact details for nearby organisations which may be better suited to your issue, and can refer you on to them, or lend assistance in helping you to do so yourself, if necessary.
