How many sessions can I have?

I typically offer a free 30 minute consultation session, with the possibility for six further sessions following. Each session lasts 50 minutes, and we can review the therapeutic relationship at any time during these sessions, with the potential to extend beyond or finish our work before the sixth session.

What happens during an introductory session?

Following the first booking, we will hold an initial meeting where I can provide more details of my work and we can discuss the reasons for you coming to counselling. I will outline the way we could work together and explain the terms of our working contract together. Then, the rest of the session is for you to explore in any way to wish to.

When do you offer sessions?

I am flexible with days and times at the moment, and in most cases can work around your availability. Sessions are usually weekly, and any out of session contact which may be necessary can be discussed beforehand.

What can you offer in terms of confidentiality?

This is an important point which can be discussed further during the introductory session and the contracting process. However, your contact details will be kept in a locked folder and any notes I make will be factual in nature, kept private and lacking in any identifiable details. Any premises I use for counselling do not explicitly advertise the service.

What do you charge for counselling?

I believe that counselling should be, as much as possible, available to all. I offer income-related fees with a basic minimum rate, largely negotiable and giving the client some level of autonomy in paying what they feel they can. This can be discussed when booking an introductory session. I accept cash, cheques or payment via online banking.

What happens if I need to cancel a session? Do I still have to pay?

If a cancellation is made over 24 hours before a session is set to begin, any payment is waived. Unless in exceptional circumstances, I charge the usual session fee for any cancellation made at any shorter notice than this.

What if I need further help following the completion of our sessions together?

While you can rebook additional sessions with me, it may be that I feel one of my local contacts may be of greater use to you. I am always happy to provide contact details for nearby organisations which may be better suited to your issue, and can refer you on to them, or lend assistance in helping you to do so yourself, if necessary.
